| This week in our "Let's Talk Tornadoes" series we will address what precautions to take during high wind conditions. These conditions are what we will experience most frequently here on our mountain. These precautions are worth printing out and placing on your refrigerator and/or cork board. During our last storm and power outage I was injured fumbling around in the dark. I fell down our flight of stairs and broke my shoulder and pelvis in 2 places. It took EMS 5 hours to get to our home due to the tree damage. This is what inspired this series of articles. We don't want to see anyone else injured in such a fashion. Gusting winds here in TRCA can bring down trees, power lines, signs and turn unsecured objects into dangerous projectiles. Gusting winds bellowing down the mountain side intensifies wind damage. Below are tips for staying safe during high wind warnings

| Over the past few years there has been discussion of developing a community garden. I have developed a few business models that will illustrate how this can be a success for our property owners, and potentially the community outside the gates of Talking Rock Creek. I would love to share these ideas, with anyone who would like to take part of this. We are just trying to establish how much interest we might have for such a project currently. Please e-mail me

We have had an unusually warm winter so far this year, and this means our bear population has remained more active than we would expect. We should pay particular attention to keeping a bear proof environment around our homes. This means making sure your garbage is secured until it is taken to one of the central collection areas. Any bird feeders and bird seed storage containers should be secure and bear proof. We are planning on having someone from the Department of Natural Resources give us a tutorial on co-existing with our bears peacefully in April. Until then please keep an eye out for our furry neighbors, and we will keep making post that offer tips on this matter until we have a definite date. Be sure to call the office if you happen to have a bear encounter, we can then let the rest of our members know there is activity. |
